Well, what I would do in that situation is.......wait....you talk to guitarists? Yeah..... I usually try to avoid doing that.

If everyone else in theband is committed to competing, winning and perhaps succeeding at what you do in the long run, I would make ask them all to join you in making it very clear that this is a deal-breaker test. It's time to face ***?

Get someone to pound on a set of pots and pans in random fashion. aka No drummer = pretty screwed (unless they're looking for a band wher ethe bassist will be keeping the time)

Sorry Earl Fontaine, it sounds weird for me.

You say you want to get into a band competion where the prize seems to be, to open for a big band that is on tour.
Then you said your guitar doesnt want to do it and you also mention that you dont have a drummer. Sorry for trying to be realistic but buy thinking you can win, I think you have getting high hopes out of a very odd situation.

When is this competition taking place?

Even if you convince your guitar player to compete, you still need to find a drummer. Do you think you have enough time to put things together and still sound good enough to win a competition??

Perhaps saying something like "I found us a drummer he is practicing with us tonight" might increase your guitarists enthusiasm a little at least

I agree with the guitarist. You don't stand a chance without a drummer.

Yeah...kind of hard to win a competition without a complete band, unless you already have plans for a drummer that you haven't mentioned yet.

Unless you've really REALLY found a drum-less niche for yourselves. I played for about six months with a group that was a trio- acoustic guitar, electric guitar/vocals, and vocals. It worked for what it was, but we also practiced a lot, and infused a lot of comedy into the act.

Otherwise, it sounds to me like you're trying to put together a band for this competition (I noticed you said "my guitarist friend" rather than "my band's guitarist" or "my guitarist")... and unless you're all exceptional musicians, you're not probably going to stand a chance against bands who have been playing together for years.

Might as well start polishing up those acoustic guitar skills, because it might be just you and that amazing singer.

see its not really the fact that we don't have a drummer its that we have nothing of us recorded really, its just a few riffs not complete songs, but with this you record your song and then upload it onto a website. So really i just want to get some songs of us recorded and just send it into them for fun =).

ps: we live in a town of under 800 people, hard to get a drummer...

Is it possible that you suck, and your guitarists knows it, and doesn't want to be embarrased at the contest? You pretty much have zero chance without a drummer though, so maybe he's on to something.

Sometimes us guitarist dont like to beat around a bush, and come off a little arrogant, but he does have a point. Don't force yourselfs into those things unless you're ready.

i'm on your guitarists side too.

also be wary of any of these "contests" that promise any kind of seemingly wonderful thing. what most of them do is charge a fee to get into the contest, then book you in crappy clubs on the crappiest nights in subcompetitions with 10 other bands, and tell you whoever draws the most people will win and move onto the next level, and get to play in the next crappy club, on the next most crappiest night. they wind up making cpaploads of money off of fees and then again off of the business they bring these bars by getting people to go to them on nights nobody ever would - to see crappy band. not a bad business idea actually, but it seems underhanded and crappy to me.

get a drummer, some songs, and stop fighting with your guitarist - especially when he's right.

crap!

Yes, these contests are rip-offs and generally do NOT result in any real success on any level. Even if they are TV-based contests -- anyone ever wonder why "Flickerstick" wasn't the "next big thing"?? Anyone really think "Supernova" is going to sweep the nation next year, led by Lukis the Malignant Dwarf?

No drummer+no songs= no chance.

If you "win" this contest, what will you play "on tour"?

Umm, you already said guitarist. The two "stupids" are kinda redundant don't you think.
