I'm with you OP! I'm not sure I need to be in a club, but you will NEVER EVER EVER catch ME PAYING to perform. EVER. It was stupid when the mess started and it's stupid now. Bands that let club owners get away with that crap are just feeding their own egos by playing in front of people. You have to be pretty desperate to pay to play in my view.

Too late; I already claimed that number, in post #44.

PAY to play? You've GOT to be effing KIDDING me....(although our local music festival, bumbershoot, IIRC, charges you to send them a tape (or cd) to listen to so they can decide who to put onstage...which is why I'll never play there...) (it also used to be a free thing...now they charge...
I'l take #666

Once I had a mechanic show up... I had the parts, he changed my oil, my starter, and gave me a tune-up; Then he gave me $100/hr that he was there.

LMAO!

#17 for me!

If any thread deserves to be stickied in the BM forum, it's this one!

Its not about how much you get but how much everyone loves it and lets face it its thereapy for me how many chances do you get to do that. venues find it hard to make a living if musicians werent paying for the privalege not aright to play then they wouldnt be there would they? In my city theres so many bands who love to play so why not encourage it rather than saying I'm not going to play so no one else should. Music should be free not a commmodity like soap or bread because its just not the same. Peace brothers.

Lame!

I also never liked the idea of an application fee for college. Yeah, let me pay you to determine whether or not I'm worthy enough for you to let me in and pay you tuition.

Of course, I've paid the app fee everytime, since just about every school requires it. Luckily, I've gone to affordable state universities all of my life, so the fees were pretty nominal (i.e., $30), but some of the more exclusive schools have some pretty high application fees. I'm sure if serves the function of keeping the admissions people from getting overwhelmed from people spaming applications material since there's a financial cost to applying, but from an applicant's point of view, I still find the practice entirely lame.

[/soapbox]

Edit: Same goes for landlords and real estate companies that require application fees to rent, although I can swallow that pill just a little bit easier if they using to pay for a background check.

How many times do I need to say it? I'm sure I've said it in enough threads that I don't need to repeat it here.
