is the truth that hard?

Sign in to disble this ad
so i got a call last week about a band needing me for 2 nights, the 16th & the 30th. i say ok & meet up with them last weekend & have a quick rundown of the tunes & they want to get together next sunday (yesterday). well i spend all week & i have all of their tunes down. I spent all morning sunday going over them again just to be sure & about 5 seconds before i leave i get a text saying the rehearsal is cancelled & so is the gig. ok, so i ask about the 30th & he replies that he found someone permanant. fine by me but then i see on his band FB page that the gig is still on!!!!

now i don't care either way about this craptacular band but why couldn't they have just said "thanks for coming out but we found a permanant member so we don't need you anymore" ?

is the truth really that hard?

That's why you need a written contract.

Some people lie when telling the truth would serve them better.

Why not the truth? Because sometimes, even douchebags realize how much of a douchebag they're being.

It sounds like they're being self-serving, unfair, and deceptive. Certainly, admitting to even half of that would be hard.

lying isn't really considered bad in certain circles as long as you are being manipulative and self serving then it is considered smart (i personally can't deal with this stuff and i don't like stealing anymore than lying)

It's better for you to find out early that this is someone to avoid in the future.

Liars lie because they like the taste of it in their mouths, not because it advances them in any way.

Be done. Be happy.

As much of a fan as I am of getting it in writing, pursuing enforcement isn't always worth the trouble. A better plan would be payment in advance. There are certain people that I require payment up front from before I'll unload an instrument from my car. That includes rehearsals, photo shoots, or anything else that they might want me to do.

Apparantly so.

Sounds like they weren't sure how permanent the replacement was going to be and didn't want to cut you loose in case you rebooked with another group. I'd be asking for a non-refundable deposit next time this group tries to have me fill in.

I dunno bout you but at my school there was this guy who has a long story between be hand him I hated him he hated me ect ect. We got over that then he asked me if I played guitar I said no he looked disapointed then I said I play bass he was like OMFG and started crying tears ov joy. Then he asked if i could jam with him I said well why type ov music do you play he said punk rock like the sex pistols ect. I said yeah im always good to try new things ? Then for like 3 weeks I kept pushing him off "ohh no I cant" then I eventually told him and felt really bad What did I learn? It would have been better to tell the truth

Asking for money up front isn't going to work at all. Just threaten to kill them all if you don't get to gig the songs you had to learn. Nothing personal, only business.

+1, I Agree, and that is in my contract too, along with many other things (parking permits, easy loading access, etc).

Gah, this has been a pet peeve of mine lately. I have run into some "friends" who think apparently it is better to lie than to risk hurting someone's feelings. In the end, it just hurts them worse.

I'd be twisted also ... spending hours learning material that i probably won't use any time soon...
