Question Trying to start a band...

Okay, so I'm having some problems with getting my band up and running.

Okay, I was in two bands back in Georgia. I played the drums in one of them, We Are the Unknowns, and bass guitar in another, Grim Angels (both of which were Punk/Alternative). We Are the Unknowns was actually a good band, just the bassist never showed up to practice so we had to break up. The Grim Angels was also pretty good (but not as good) but I moved all the way to New Hampshire (because of my dad's job transfer), so that one didn't work out either.

So, now I'm up here and I've actually written a few songs that I'd like to play with some other people and maybe go professional with (until we graduate from high school).

Now, I've found some potential band members (They're some of my good friends too), but the thing is, they dont like the same genres I do.

The songs that I had written were like Punk/Pop Rock songs. But everyone around me that can actually play instruments like stuff like Nirvana, Metallica, The Used, and Black Sabbath. Now, don't get me wrong, I love those bands. But I want to play stuff like Green Day, The Police, AC/DC, My Chemical Romance, and Fall Out Boy yet I don't know if anyone around here likes those kind of bands. They're all metal heads around here, but I'm a punker from down south (no offense to the metal heads though).

I want to hold auditions, but it seems kind of awkward when a single member is holding auditions to find all the members to start a band instead of joining one that is looking for a bassist.

Any tips for me on forming my punk band without having to leave the town I live in? Any help is appreciated.

well, I'll just let u know, being in a band is infinitely easier when everyone has their own ride. So things will definitely get easier as you grow older.

Patience is the key, it took me a year before I found THE band that I'm going to be in, for the long-term.

And you shouldn't have to compromise your own aspirations, in order to play music. It's extremely frustrating and leaves you unfulfilled.

What you can do, as of now, is to keep playing and build your chops.

Post myspace ads/craigslist, anything, to get your name out. Maybe even some ads at the local music store?

and back when I was in high school, I always carried an instrument with me. Trust me, it helps.
