As for a band website, we went with BandVista ( http://www.thebyrdscollective.com ) and we haven't looked back. Very easy to update and change content. (and that's the secret to a good site; make them keep coming back).
Hope this helps. If there's a specific question, I'll try and answer it if I can. |

| | | | As far as Tune Core goes...
I saw the owners at the CMJ festival in the fall. The main advantage they seemed to be communicating was that they put an artists copyrights first, so when someone downloads your song you get all the royalties as opposed to the website/company getting a cut. You can choose to waive your rights but basically they have your back when it comes to getting paid and protecting your music.
Of course you have to pay a fee up front to get your songs up. But when they are up you can get them sent to multiple places all at once like Amazon and iTunes.

Yeah it's easy to navigate, page loads pretty quick. Just wondering if there is a ballpark number on getting songs on tune core. Also if you know how much it would cost to get a web site similar to yours if we were to go through Band Vista.
Thanks again
Kabal just wondering what the fee is for getting tunes up and if there is a separate fee to get tunes on other sites like iTunes
And thanks Stefandisgust this sounds very good. Links to any of your websites would also be cool too, right now our only web presence is MySpace and Reverbnation.
Again thanks and hopefully this can be good info for anyone else looking for a website to promote their band. |

We only released one song as opposed to an EP ( our CD is free to download from out site) to test the waters. We make enough off the song to pay for the website throughout the year.
Thanks for the compliment on the site. |

| | | | I think the price is on the homepage and you can either pay by single or album. A full album is $50, singles are $10. Its kinda steep at first but you get all the return so that might be something you want to consider first. I wonder if there's a separate price for EPs?
No there shouldn't be an extra fee for getting your music on iTunes or any of the other outlets they offer no matter how many you want to take advantage of.
Good luck with the music, let us know how it all goes for you if you decide to go for it. |

So the question was differences/advatages between Tunecore & Whotune- well, we are 2 very different kinds of sites- A bit like asking whats the difference between a Fender Strat & a Bass! OK so Tunecore is an excellent service & does what it does well- distributes your music to many places for a reasonable fee. Whotune is designed as a more social & interactive place- a One stop for the New music industry! We offer a ton of tools & features for promotion, sharing, Interaction & sales. We have a ton of very cool features still to come & expect to see some great new things happening in the next couple of weeks! Basically if you want to Interact with fans LIVE via cam u can do on whotune, we have radio stations playing only whotune artists, worldwide gig guide, Cool profiles with Wall to wall, Private & Instant messaging, Great sharing functions (for putting your music on FB,Twitter etc) Charts, Competitions, you can sell your music GLOBALLY in seconds- you keep 100% of the profit (Paypal charge 15% which we take to cover the paypal cost). We have featured artist programs & Artist of the month programs which are distributed out to our worldwide Network of tastemakers to increase visibility & promotional opportunities for artists. We also have iPhone/iPad & Android Apps & a comprehensive Search capability. We will be showcasing some artists at CMJ in October too. How much do we charge for this service? $0 its FREE!.. we support artists & would always welcome your support! you will also always find myself & other Whotune staff on the site & willing to chat & talk about the industry or offer advice if we can via our Instant Messaging system! - Hope to see you on Whotune soon, Keep rockin'..cheers- Karl George- Whotune Founder |

| | | It's been a minute since I posted the response below and I should probably revisit the info, but it's hard to imagine some/most of it isn't still good.
See post #6 at digital distribution
