Urrrghhhh....my band's split up.

Well, this must be a new record for me. My band has officially split up without doing a single gig.

It was pretty obvious it was going to happen though:

My guitarist: He was a fellow student at a neighboring uni and graduated last year. He told me he was to join the Forces BUT that he was 'guaranteed' to stay local and be able to stay in the band.
He got in, did his basic training, keeping me hanging on while he supposedly was sorting out moving back here. THREE months of this and he FINALLY tells me that there's no chance of him coming close enough to stay in the band. What made

What made this worse was that the guy I had playing with me as a replacement has NO interest in gigs, despite being really good.

My drummer: A guy I knew through another friend and who was a great drummer. Only problem was that after joining the band, he became very muso-ish and pretty much criticised EVERYONE we auditioned for a new lead guitar and singer. I eventually had no choice but to kick him out.

So now I'm left with a non-existent band and a lot of wasted time.

Time to start auditioning for yet ANOTHER band...

Gutter for ya man...but think of it this way - you can get on with being a musician and actually playing now!

Well there is that, but I spent a LOT of time getting the band together that I DID have...

Seems here that unless you play metal you've got no chance.

Actually, of the 6 or so bands I've been in, only 2 ever made it to the stage before splitting up, and one of them did 1 gig (for which I was hired as a sub).

I feel your pain.

I totally feel your pain on that one! Maybe we'll both have a better year once 2010 starts. Best of luck to you!

Fassa: I know this is frustrating, but try to learn from the experience. One of the hardest parts of playing music is to find people you can actually play with. In this case, there were several red flags that were early indicators of trouble. You gotta stick with it, but you also have to pay attention to warning signs that you may be wasting your time.

I feel your pain. But it is not a waste. look at it as a learning experience. I have had at least 3 bands in the past 10 years that never made it out of the basement. But each one taught me something about human nature, playing bass, live sound, etc. So move on to the next one. Main thing is don't give up.
