Videos from awesome gig last week.

My band, Laden Swallow, played the finals of a local radio station's battle of the bands last Thursday. The gig was special to us because our original drummer came up to Humboldt from So-Cal pretty much soley for the show (we had a five hour practice the night before and that was it). I hadn't seen the guy in over a year, so it was really cool to play with him again. It was an awesome show with some very "interesting" people in the crowd. The best, though was the old lady on a Rascal motor scooter rocking out during our sound check (public venue). That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I only wish the other band would've gotten video of it.

The sound was immaculate, which was a first for us as there aren't a whole lot of good sound guys working bars and DIY all ages shows around here. The crowd was also really energetic, which definately helped us with the show.

I've put up a couple of videos that my girlfriend took from right in front of the stage. You can't see the crowd, but there were about 100-150 people (mostly NOT our usual demographic) behind her.

OK. Now that I've driven you away with my long post. Here's the links:

"Star Crossed" (set opener)

"New Song" (featuring me on 1/2 the lead vocals) - My bass was off at the start because I couldn't see the LED on my Boss tuner. Yargh....

"Zombie" (Cranberries Cover) - Featuring a crazy old hippie chick directing airplanes or something.

Tell me what you think. Enjoy.

Not really my thing but your band sounds pretty tight, youtube doesn't bring the best sound quality but congrats on the great gig!

I thought you guys sounded good, and I liked your vocals. They gave the band a different sound.

Rock On!!

Thanks guys. Glad to hear you like it. I don't think the rust shows up too much. At least not on these songs. There were a couple of tunes that Ed (drummer) didn't seem to want to end, but we played 'em off well enough I think.

Keep the comments comin'.

Star Crossed sounds great! The audio sounds darn good for youtube. What kind of camera did your g/friend use? External mic, or internal?

Good job!

Thanks.

It's a buddy of mine's Panasonic PV-GS2 Mini DV camera. It's the internal stereo mic on the camera. I really can't emphasize how cool it was having a good sound guy for once. We never get that around here. Half the time I'm running a PA combo head on top of my bass head and guessing what works.

Thanks Justin. I'll Google the model and check it out. It did a great job of picking up the great work your sound man did!

You band name is as cool as the one a friend of mine has always wanted to use, or put on a t-shirt - White Swallow!

I'm originally from Santa Rosa - spent a lot of weekends cruising Hwy1 and camping along the coastline, and in the Redwoods of Humboldt county... should have been looking for chunks of Redwood Burl while I was there! If only I know then etc.......
