Vocal PA Speaker build

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks,

I thought about which forum to put this in for agesss and still havent really decided... I thought this was maybe most appropriate.

We are rebuilding our rehearsal room. It is a small room in which we use our mapex orion kit, ampeg 6x10 and bass amp, and mesa 2x12 and 100W Marshall. It gets pretty loud in there.

We want to build a small vocal PA so the two singers, myself and guitarist, can hear our vocals and write vocals, and i've been thinking about building the speakers for this small PA myself.

By picking up a second hand power amp, pushing around 300W a side, and running a small mixer into this for simply 2 mic's and a laptop, could i build 2 speakers, each housing a single 12" speaker? I'm not too knowledgable on speaker design, but the idea of building these instead of just buying second hand is that we want to suspend it by chains from the ceiling and want the cabinet to match the interior woodwork. Our guitarist is a carpenter, so building the physical cabinet itself will be free and completely possible.

Any advice?

Check out Shavano Music Online... here's a link for plans for a pair of small 12" two way speakers:

We all wear fitted plugs and have a full jar of disposables sitting in the room incase of visitors, it's way too loud in there. And thanks diggler!
