Vocalist playing air guitar during a gig

What are your thoughts on vocalist playing air guitar during a gig ? I think it is one of the stupidest things I have seen during a performance.

I would either fire that singer or leave the band. It's almost painful to watch. The worst is a female singer whose motions aren't anywhere near what would actually work on a guitar.

Yeah, Can't stand it. Like during a solo why air guitar? I don't air trumpet during a trumpet solo. Although its kinda hard when I'm laying down the bass for it. Why don't the singers just get some liquids or something or headbang or something. Or get a guitar and play a ****ing solo so you're not air guitaring and actually playing the guitar.

I think it looks silly, too, but Chuck Billy of Testament has been doing it for a long time...with his (half) microphone stand.

He's on the very short list of people who can get away with it.

I don't see the big deal, I guess. It depends what kind of band though...if it's a hair metal cover band or something, no big deal...if it's a blues rock or progressive rock band, it will probably look dumb.

I've seen it done many times. I've done guitar riffs during bass break in like Pour Some Sugar on me. It's all silliness. To talk about it being done it seems retarded but to see it it's much better than to see a vocalist just stand there and do some high school drama class pose.

Recently I couldn't bear to watch Celine Dion play an air guitar. Ruined the whole song!

Absolutely. Her air guitar is the WORST. I was truly embarrased for her when I saw her do it.

Robert Plant does a kimda 1/2 a**d air guitar thingy that makes hoim look like he has palsy or something, not nearly as bad as Joe Cocker was. (Remember Saturday night Live?)
As for Cieline Dion don't think I could handle watching her even NOt doing air guitar,,, but thats my opinion.

I don't know, I would have thought that her opening her mouth would be what ruined the song.
