We did a show last night with a fill-in guitarist

And he's helping us out tonight, too (see "Guitard walks off gig" thread).

The guy did a pretty amazing job, and has loads of stage presence and flash. He had less than a week to learn 40+ songs. He wasn't able to learn all 40+ but he did get at least 35 or so. Enough to get us by last night and tonight. I think everyone wishes he could join the band on a permanent basis, but he has other band obligations. He's in a tribute band, and I think they can do tributes to at least two bands, probably with the same personnel!

We had a few rough spots, naturally, but the crowd didn't seem to care. I was more nervous than usual before the show, but that went away after we were a few songs into the first set.

There were a couple of local bassists there, who are way better than me, I'm sure. They both said I did fine, and one said I was playing nice bass lines (they were being nice. I know they noticed a few mistakes I made).

Overall, a pretty good night.

I should have added: I don't know how much country music he's played in the past, but he learned a lot of the licks. Some of the songs he shredded on, which was cool and fun actually. Shred Country. Hey, would that be a new genre?

Sounds like he saved your bacon. What a relief, eh?
Stay in touch with him. You never know what might happen down the road.

Oh yeah, he saved our bacon all right.

Last night we played better than the night before, but the crowd was less enthused. Oh, they liked us OK, but they wanted to hear their heel & toe and other country dance stuff. Most of what we play is hard driving country, country/rock etc.
