Alright, so I've been to 5 local music stores, yet... none of them let you put ads up. So now I have no idea where to go from here. The school doesn't let students put ads unless you pay them a fee of five dollars which I think is really stupid. My mom won't help me come up with a way to get through this issue, because she thinks I need to make better grades, since all A's is somehow below expectations. So now I come to you guys yet again. What advice can you give me? I've got like 50 drummers at my school but none of them like punk, plan on playing live or being in a band, or just aren't any good. No one plays guitar and the chior kids are crap. Any other approaches that you guys can think of to help me start my band?

Put up some online adds and see if you get any bites. Could use Craigs list or something? Maybe there is an online forum for your area/ region that you could find, there may be some sort of "your area" music scene page like www.milwaukeerocks.com or the like.

The net can be a huge resource, sometimes overwhelming.

Also check into the myspace classifieds to look for potential members in your area.

Peace

-Benny

That's exactly what I was thinking when they told me they didn't allow ads.

There's also http://meetyourband.com/
I haven't had the need to use it myself, although I do know a guy who had mentioned some good experiences with it.

Ask your teachers about being placed in more advanced classes, such as AP or IB tracks if you aren't already in them.

Well, I'm in AP English and Algebra 2. I think that's about as high as you can be in 9th grade.

+1 to the Craiglist idea and +10 to looking into a local music scene website or somesuch. Around here we have www.livevictoria.com which has all kinds of resources for finding local musicians and bands.

Have you tried this? http://bandmix.com To contact someome it costs but you can post for free. I have gotten some leads from there. I have also used Craig's list. How do you find people looking for band members on myspace? I am hunting for a drummer or a band too.

Well done.

Your mom is right to be concerned about your grades.
But you are right to tell her its fine if you keep them up.
Don't just talk the talk but walk the walk. Do your homework
first and your Mom will be real happy. And happy Mom's
make happy bassists (especially when it comes to
GEAR ACQUISITION TIME) hint hint.

I got to think that music stores that won't let you post
looking for mates are pretty stupid. Nothing like alienating
future customers. Very poor sales form. The kid who gets
action from the store is gonna be back, when he gets back
he's in a band and needs gear. He will probably prefer to buy
gear from people that treat him right, respect him and earn his
trust. Or is that too much to expect as a customer?

I don't think so.

Are you saying that your mom is not happy with you making all A's? When I made the honor roll for the first time my mom took me out and spent $100 on me and then took out to eat at my favorite place.

I don't know. I think she thinks it's going to mess my grades up if I get into this band thing first. But I tell her that I'll do fine.
