Depending on the gig, I'll wear anything from a tux to a cowboy outfit (complete with hat, because I'm a whore), though on original music gigs, I'll typically go with jeans and a black shirt (which goes with all kinds of music). Unless it's beach music, when I'll wear a hawaiian shirt with the jeans...

I personally put much more value on the sound and posture, and to a lesser extent general stage presence, of my fellow bassists than what they're wearing.

I can't stand looking at bands that look like they're just making a trip to the grocery store to buy some milk.
I'm not saying wear a tux.. but I think it's important to look "cool" or somewhat fashionable.

| | | | Dude, do what is right with the shwartz... If you don't feel right, you won't play right. If you are feeling grungy, chuck on that flanno. If you are feeling rock god, put on your favourite jeans and some eyeliner. Because when you and your band are rocking out, people really don't give a fvck what you are wearing. They are all too drunk to care anyway. Just have a good time, and the punters will follow... |

I have seen some of the best dressed people I've ever met go up and give the worst show I've ever seen, and I've seen guys that look like they just got out of the thrift shop knock the show right out of the park.
IMHO, It's not what you wear. It's how you wear it.

On a side note, Chris Wolstenholme from Muse usually wears a smart suit on stage these days. Well mostly without the suit jacket. And that guy rocks out hard.

Last January, we threw a big formal dance and folks showed up in rented tuxes, ball gowns, etc. In the spring, we had a good ol' fashioned hootenanny and people mostly wore overalls and flannel. This summer, we did a Miami-Vice themed show, so you know.... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
