We found our guitarist on there. He's a Musician's Institute grad and a heck of a guy, let alone an awesome player.

The Mode is great in big cities but useless in smaller communities. I've used Craigslist and the local music store, Alpha Music, has an online bulletin board. The biggest issue I have (not the bulletin boards fault) is in which the ads are being placed. The vagueness of ads is quite alarming and distressing, to me at least! You're forced to e-mail each other back and forth several times just to get some basic info or you have to call. I'm not a big 'phone' person. My thing is, if you're looking for something, state exactly what it is you're looking for! So basically, I place my own ads, with full disclosure, and let folks contact me. I put everything on the line in my ads. Age, rig, preferred styles of music, years experience, type of band/musicians, links to pics/demos, etc., etc.

These are a few of my regular haunts in order of preference/usefulness. I've probably forgotten some too:

www.bmusic.com.au
www.gumtree.com.au - musicians community.
www.musolist.com
www.perthbands.com
www.coverbands.com.au
www.westerfront.com.au (caters to metal fans/players)
www.newbandmember.com
www.cracker.com.au - general advertisements.

I've tried bandmix.com and only got one bite off it. Nice cats but we rehearsed for a year straight and had 1 gig. The music was okay but not really my bag so I left.
