I play smaller/mid sized venues pretty often.

I dont bring spare anything.

If I were playing a large venue (opening for a big national act), I'd bring- extra bass, fuses.

I generally take good care of my stuff and will replace a suspicious cable the moment it starts acting up, change strings every two weeks or so, etc.

Band brings...

Duplicate, extra - Mains amp, Monitor amp (both in rack case with the ones we use so we can simply move cables if one goes down). We also bring along all the usual extra cables, fuses, duct tape, lights, extension cords, and our 220 tap with circuit box and any necessary 220 connectors (in case a new place has inadequate power). We even have a smaller mixer in the trailer if need be.

Personally, I bring extra strings, pre-amp tubes, patch and speaker cables, picks, fuses.

The band keeps an extra bass amphead and speaker cabinet in the trailer too if I need either.

We're pretty much set in the event of any equipment failure. We can either fix or replace as needed. And we have already.

I bring extra strings with me on tour, but not during reg. gigs. I'd just switch basses.

Every f***ing thing except my amp and a roll of ducttape comes in (at least) 2.
2 Bass'
2 Straps
2 cables
2 powercables (for my amp)
2 batteries (one in my active bass, other reserve)
2 sets of earplugs
20+ picks (because I find those damn things EVERYWHERE in my gear I don't know the exact count... and I don't even use picks except for one song..)

(and some random assorted stuff which I lug around "just in case" :s)

Okay I don't want to make it seem like all these people bring way to much, but why? When did you need all of this? I've never brought more than 1 bass. I've never packed extra strings.

The only extras I bring are an extra cable (incase one poops out), extra battery (same deal), screwdriver to put said battery in (since mines in the control cavity), and ear plugs. The ear plugs and extra cable just live in the back of my rack case, and the battery in my bass case. I've never persay packed them, they're just there.

Now watch, I'm going to break my E string and be pissed as hell and get to do some sweet on the fly transposing (meh it will only make me a better musician, maybe...).

Dan

Well, If your main bass is active, Which mine is, and the 9volt goes early in a song, then its nice to be able to miss out on only 30-40 sec of a song while you switch basses, as opposed to the whole song while the backplate gets taken off, battery switched, and backplate replaced.
