I just want to play with someone. The two people i'm wanting to start a band with can't even play their instrument, and i don't really know anyone else that well to jam with them. So who is there that i could play with? How did you start a band? I've been playing for a year and a half and the only time i've ever played with another guitarist is at my lessons.

| | | | well, it depends on how old you are really. but just go out and meet people, hang out at places bands are playing, go to music stores, put up a sign "need band". Its not too hard to find decent people, but to find good people it may be a little harder. |

music stores - talk to anyone that looks or sounds interesting (or the people that work there - sometimes even they look and/or sound interesting)
post an ad on your local craiglist.org musician listings.

If you're in high school, get to know the people in your school's music program. You are likely to find someone in there.
If your school has a newsletter that allows students to put in ads, put an ad in your school paper, and hold jams with the respondants until you find the right match.
If you're out of high school, go to open mics/jams in your area, and get to know the folks at your local music store. If they are not interested in playing (already have a project or whatever), they may be able to hook you up with people who are.
Good luck!!!

If your profile was filled out more completely we'd be able to give you better advice.
+1 to open jam sessions. You have to get into the scene. However, you may not be old enough.
CraigsList is another good way to find gigs. However, you may not live in an area where CL is used. |

INSIST on giving them your phone number or getting theirs. If things go well, you can land a gig with a semi-decent to bad singer/songwriter, and now you are in!
Once you're in the local scene, it's near impossible to stay out. I know when I was searching for new drummers, I called up about ten or so who I had seen play with other local bands, and a few of them had quit playing music, but told me they still got calls every month. If the first group you land in is perfect for you, awesome! It probably won't be, so what you do is just play your best, every night, and listen to as many other local groups as possible. Get your name out, playing music is either a hobby or profession, but either way, you have to take it seriously.
From than on, it's just a matter of hopping on as many gigs as possible, and sticking with the one/ones that you enjoy most and see the most benefit in.
Most importantly, don't be afraid to start small. Look at the biography of any well known musician, and you'll see they started out in some no-name band that played two gigs total, joined another band that maybe toured once, met a bigger band on tour and eventually joined them, and one day tried out for a HUGE band and got the gig.

| | | | Well, i'm 16. And I go to a private Christian school, so everyone knows me and i know everyone. There's the elite few who play in a band, and they're way out of my league. Plus I don't talk to them. And I live and a, um, civilized hick town. If that makes sense.

OK...some questions...
Do you know anyone in the public school?
Are you driving yet?
Is there a music store you can get to readily and regularly?
Would your parents be ok with you maybe trying to get a job at the music store?
Do your parents support your playing, oppose it, or are they just pretty ambivalent about it?
Because if you can manage to meet some new kids, if you have transportation, if you have parental approval, and if you have a job in a place where you can make appropriate connections, you can probably do this thing!
