What's with the Craigslist ads looking for a "Bassist"

Do you actually refer to yourself as a "bassist"?
Craiglist's search is so bad that you actually have to search using "bass" and "bassist" to catch all the bass-related ads.

I'm not a bassist. I'm a bass player.

It really is quite simple... if you're not a bassist, then don't respond to any ads looking for a bassist.

Know any decent drum players? I could use one for my new project.

+1 Lets all stop referring to guitar players as guitarists and drum players as drummers and song stylists as singers.

From Merriam-Webster

bass·ist noun \ˈbā-sist\

That's right. From now on everyone is a song player no matter what you use to play the song.
I am starting a new band and can't decide if I want to have 4 or 5 song players.

"Bassist" and "bass player" mean the same thing. I usually say that I play bass or that I'm a bass player but on my website and Facebook page I use the term "bassist".

However, I have always felt that a "bass player" is someone who plays bass and a "bassist" is someone who truly understands the instrument.

Then we can do without this bassist sub-forum -

IMO bassist sounds more professional than bass player. But I have "bassist" in my user name so of course I'm gonna say that!

Don't forget to use "bass guitarist" when you're searching...

The real question is how many other instruments end in "player"?
In college, I was a tubist. Now, I'm a bassist.
The term "Bass Player" just conjures the image of the caveman playing an Epiphone T'Bird slung down past his knees. Hey, if that's you, go for it!

Reminds me of a quote by John(ny) Kruk. "We're not athletes, we're baseball players."
