Craiglist's search is so bad that you actually have to search using "bass" and "bassist" to catch all the bass-related ads.
I'm not a bassist. I'm a bass player.

I am starting a new band and can't decide if I want to have 4 or 5 song players. |

I usually say that I play bass or that I'm a bass player but on my website and Facebook page I use the term "bassist".
However, I have always felt that a "bass player" is someone who plays bass and a "bassist" is someone who truly understands the instrument.

I'm not a bassist. I'm a bass player. | Then we can do without this bassist sub-forum - http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/

In college, I was a tubist. Now, I'm a bassist.
The term "Bass Player" just conjures the image of the caveman playing an Epiphone T'Bird slung down past his knees. Hey, if that's you, go for it!

I'm not a bassist. I'm a bass player. | Reminds me of a quote by John(ny) Kruk. "We're not athletes, we're baseball players."
