There are lost of "basses", Double bass (bass violin?) bass trombone, bass drum and bass guitar to name but some.

I had a bass instructor once who schooled me in the difference when I brought in some Smashing Pumpkins songs to learn (I was maybe 13 at the time)..

"D'Arcy isn't a bassist, she's a bass player. Victor Wooten is a bassist."
