Where do you rehearse?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi. I've just quit my last band and am in the process of starting a new one. My biggest problem, however, is finding a place to rehearse. In the past, I've rehearsed in my house, someone's house/basement, and even a barn. Now, my house is not suitable for band rehearsal, and my singer and drummer have even worse living conditions. I've looked into renting another house just for rehearsal, but so far not much luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

We have a dedicated practice facility in our little town. He's got some rooms completely stocked w/ drums, bass guitar amp, guitar amps, pa and even an Alesis masterlink w/ two room mics set up to record rehearsals with. $15 per hour, pay for 2 hours get a 3rd free. He also has two rooms with just a pa set up, as well as a sound stage for small shows and to rehearse a stage show on. Very cool.

Your best bet if you don't have any cheap studios near to you would be to look around and see if any hotels or shops have basements or spare 'function' rooms that you could hire. You could even try your local colleges or universities to see whether they do private hire for their practice spaces (assuming there is a university near to you and that they have music courses).
I guess I'm kinda lucky in some respects because the uni dorm I live in at present has its own music room and function hall alongside the university's music department's facilities. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of equipment- there aren't even any spare amps or a drumkit.

We are fortunate that we can rehearse in the back room of a music store after hours. Pretty sweet.

We practice in what used to be an office in my drummer's parents' house. He still lives at home so it's not too weird. And after 4 years they're pretty much cool with it

We practice in our drummer's garage. Unfortunately, since it's gotten warmer it's like an incubator and before the summer is out some older ancient diseases may make a come back and we'll all die.

That's when you get one of those big ass fans and try not to die.

We are fortunate enough to use either a classroom or the wrestling room at the school where one of our members is a teacher. I have seen people rehearsing in the MPR at the local senior center on Sundays, but I've never checked into it.

We rehearse on the same stage we play on: Church sanctuary at Calvary Chapel. No load outs/ins either. The only thing thats a minor bummer is the PA needs tweaking before every rehearsal as during the week, the PA is constantly being accessed for other services.

We practice in a spare function room in a local club. It's big, clean, warm, has a bar and a better stage than 90% of our gigs! Best all its £15 for the night (local rehersal space charges about £10 per hour). Occasionally we get kicked out for a week when they have someone prepared to pay them real money to use it, but it's the best place I've ever rehersed.
