A simple list of ideas and a question answer session would have sufficed. Instead you came here making huge claims, and boasting about your dad every chance you got. Now, I have nothing against your father, his position, your band, or how your methods. It's just, the way you express yourself makes you sound like an over-hyped used car salesman.
I mean, you bragged about your ultimate promotion tactics, and than you revealed that you made 50 flyers and a few radio ads. This is a site full of musicians, we KNOW this stuff. And if we don't, it's certainly not an industry secret.
So instead of claiming to be a promoting guru (which you could very well be), it would be better to prove that to us by listing ideas in a more professional manner. If you want to be taken serious, than you really have to express yourself over the internet in a better fashion.
EDIT: This might go over a bit harsh. Don't take it so harshly. I don't hate you, I didn't blast you in the former thread, and I think you are doing a decent thing. | No offence taken, the biggest drag was, is that more stuff was on it's way, and I chose to start with the obvious stuff, while awaiting other ideas from others. Some minds need time to think.
Yes I probably appraoched it initially the wrong way...my bad, and sure it might have sounded like a car salesman ad, again sorry.
That said, it didn't warrant some of the negativity that was spewed, so we though "why should we bother?"
So SOME (not all!) of you can simply go on with your photocopied promo, with pics of you in front of the brick wall....let us know how it works out for ya.
I'll say it again:
"I AM SORRY, PLEASE ACCEPT MY APPOLOGIES!"

A public meeting place involving participant discussion: a program (as on radio/ television or internet) involving discussion of a topic usually by several authorities and or participants.
NOT a mono•logue
Monologue a long speech monopolizing conversation.
RM/DM … I don’t know who you are or what your qualifications are … other than “But I still get clients begging me to get back in the ad biz....”
To paraphrase SPOILED GRAPE I think you wouldn't have gotten the responses you did if you would have approached the subject differently. … Instead you came here making huge claims, like an over-hyped used car salesman.

Amen …
I know this may come as some surprise to you but there are people who might, just might know as much or even more than you …
In your previous ( and now deleted thread) you said a website was a good idea … yeah we know that. When I wanted to see what you knew about Cross promotional , Sponsored websites … Man you FREAKED … coming back with $#!@ like I’m not gonna hold your hand and teach you this stuff … and go do no brainer stuff like work pumping gas.
Well I don’t pump gas … I own a business that reaches a world wide audience through the net, I write ad copy every day, deal with media types all the time, and have done TV appearances and several articles in the papers. I have just setup a musical instrument distribution segment in my company … and am in the process of setting up a Cross promotional , Sponsored website. … Oh and when I find time I attempt to play bass, in a town that knows a little bit about the music business! ... Not that you will take this advice ... But lose the ego: and gain some manners and humility. |

Does anyone have the thread saved by any chance? I only got to page 2 halfway.
I'm gonna send you a PM asking a few questions, can I? I think it's really cool what you did (and plan to do). |

for those of you who missed it, the concrete suggestions of the previous thread (as I recall):
Color flyers are better than B&W
Polished Ads are better than crappy ones
Your band ads + logo should have a genre appropriate look
Play charity events and projects
Get a Web site
Get a Myspace Page
Don't post bad music on yr pages
Use Myspace and other online networking to balnket young women with show anouncements (but be polite about it)
Get young women to your shows and men will follow
Get young women to sell / wear your merchandizing
People like stickers
Schmooz radio / press people (free pizza + show tickets was suggested)
PM introvox for specific advice
oh yeah and have your hot chick lead singer wear a zorro mask
Introvox: honestly, I'm not trying to be a jerk about this. Anybody should appreciate sincere offers of help. But many are just as put off by empty hyperbole and inflated hype.
However, you DID succeed in hyping the thread! I watched it go two from to six pages in an afternoon, and appearently your inbox has been filling up too. Lots of people were reacting really strongly (no such thing as bad publicity, right?) Quite possibly that alone is proof that you are great at generating hype! good work |

You can't expect someone to just flood everything he knows about everything in 15 minutes!
And also, as Kenny Allyn pointed out, this is a forum for discussion, and I think Intro was encouraging discussion, both about his ideas and ideas that others had, or a combination of both. It wasn't meant to be instant gratification!

@Introvox: you posted some links to a newspaper article from the '70s about marketing. Do you still have that article handy? I never got to read it. I THOUGHT I'd just be able to come back and check it out today!
It's sad, but I totally understand why you chose to remove the information. No sense feeding the hand that bites, so to speak.
Best of luck to you, and I look forward to seeing your website. Thanks for at least trying to help.

When I was just starting out I could have wasted a lot less time if I had known...
