I don't see whats wrong with any of those reasons. Who has the right to judge why someone starts a band? Any reason is a good reason as long as you are having fun (being able to play a lilttle is definately a plus though).

I was trying to make a list of bad reasons/reasons not to start a band. So far I have:
  • "Score Chicks"
  • "Make it big"
  • "Show the world my amazingness"
  • "Get rich"
  • "Play (Insert ginormous venue)"
  • "Play a combination of Folk, Punk, Metal, Blues, Jazz, Rock, and Bluegrass"
  • "Be the next (Insert famous band name here"
  • "Prove those old guys wrong"
  • "Start a revolution"
  • "Make ground-breaking music"

Anyone else have something to add?

Seriously what is wrong with any of these reasons????

I can see how that most people would be turned off by this. Chances are these people posting these adds have spent more time writing such add then learning their instrument.

But do you think VanHalen said, oh I just want to make a few bucks on the weekend, have no groupies, and play covers. No they said all of these reasons. Difference is they achieved it.

Keep your eyes open for the add that says,

Band seeking bass player to plays back yards for free. Playing only popular cover songs note for note. Not looking to achieve anything but will expect you to practice 3 days a week.

But if people didn't have goals we wouldn't have amazing, famous, ground-breaking bands playing huge stadiums. Don't get me wrong it's a slim chance you'll make it big, but i wouldn't wanna be in a band without goals or direction. I say as long as you have the determination and work-ethic to match that talk then go for it
