I'll think twice. Our band will not be so solid if we have different primary languages.

We are trying to find singer right now, because current one sucks. All our attempts fail for some reason. All band members who are looking for new singer are from Ukraine and living in US. Maybe this is one of the reasons?
So, here is the question - Will you join the band with all foreigners?

In al honesty race, nationality, sex, sexual orentaion, relegion wouldnt affect my choice of groups. Now if they where hateful and sang about hate or intolerance then that would not fly. But the quick answer, talent is talent |

So, here is the question - Will you join the band with all foreigners? | Sure! I'd have to like the music, as with any other band. But, if the "hang" factor is good, and we can communicate with one another, why not?
You know, though...your accents may be putting people off. I have a guitarist friend who is a Mexican national. His accent is very, very thick. He's had a hard time getting the locals (even the Tejanos) to give him the time of day. Once they hear him play, they all want to work with him, but his strong accent appears to be holding him back.
Don't give up! Let your music speak for you. You'll find the *right* individual for your band. If they're so close-minded that they can't get past a minor linguistic problem, they're not going to work out, anyway, right?

As for the question, I don't think I'd care.
But to clarify, while I would play with foreigners, I will not play any Foreigner!
Good luck in your search!

Lovely...*lovely*...French-Canadian guys. Great music, really nice dudes. Its hard for me and their bassist to talk shop, though. He doesn't speak English very well, and my French is awful *and* limited. And we're trying to shout over the club's juke box, or another band. But we manage.

The first time we went to lunch I said "This is the first time I've had lunch with a foreigner." To which he replied: "This is the first time I've had lunch with three of them." I also play in a brass band with a woman from England whose accent is so thick, I can understand only about every third word. I think it was George Bernard Shaw who said, "America and England are two countries separated by a common language."
Seriously, I've had more communications problems playing with Americans than I could ever imagine having with a "foreigner." As long as no one eats stinky cheese and garlic, why worry? |

Someone who is new to the group may feel that they will always be isolated as a band member because they can't understand the language. Or, they may even feel insulted because they are not included in the conversation. Best to speak the language they can understand. If they hit it off with the band, they will even pick up some Russian phrases, most likely!
