What do you guys think of having a wireless bass console instead of leads.
Im in this classic rock band and the rest of the guys keep telling me to move around more. But their instruments arent daym heavy, my bass weighs a hell of a lot (bout 17kg).
But i love it
However i find it hard to do the jumps and struts with the lead and the bass. Without the lead, no problem.
So that brought me to the wireless consoles i see some players use,
ARE THEY RELIABLE?? DO THEY PRODUCE THE BASS AS STRONGLY AS LEADS?
thats my problem i dont wanna go out and spend $400NZ on a wireless thingy if its not even that good.
So what do you think?

FWIW I use a Shure ULXP4 Wireless unit...it is most excellent (edit) It is however a bit pricey, there is also a less expensive version that i hear works really well, too. |

I think jt's double-necked monster weighs in at about 17 kg.

| | | | I've got an el-cheapo system (but still uhf). Totally reliable. Never had a problem (except one time the battery died - not exactly the hardware's fault).
Sound is great - maybe you could hear the difference, but at a rock gig, it's more than good enough.
I don't leap about too much, but it is nice to be able to walk around, go over the other side of the stage, maybe out into the audience without cable hassles.
For what i paid (about $130), there really is no excuse not to get one.

Your numbers show about $300+ USD.
I'd save some more NZ's and get a Sennheiser EW 172.
Cover's a football field with no dropouts IME, made of metal(can take being dropped), tune-able on the frequencies.

98 EUR=68 GBP
16 Switchable channels. Range is fine. I'm sure that there are better units, but it's done six months of bar gigs, without any problems, and the price is great.
It's coolest feature is the built in battery charger - there's a cable that plugs the receiver into the transmitter and recharges the batteries (or you can use regular AA's). I just plug it in at set up, and it's good to go for the night. The connector cable is a little fragile - I broke it! but it'll be pretty easy to make a new one. The rest of the unit is tough enough.

I've seen similar wireless systems sell used for half the price. The thing about wireless is it's all a matter of gig. I wouldn't use my wireless in a quiet jazz quartet. I do use it at punk rock shows.
