Wonderful Rehearsal!

I don't post in the section very often, but I had a great expereince tonight that I would like to share. Every year, I play for my church and a community choir for the Martin Luther King Day Celebration. I often don't make too many rehearsals simply because work and family make it difficult. This year has been the same, however, I made to rehearsal today, and I pray I will be able to make to rehearsal Saturday morning.

The bottom line was that the choir was slammin' and the choirmaster/keyboardist and I drummer I don't know were airtight. I felt like a bee floating in the air playing with everybody! Some of the songs I knew, the others were pretty easy to sort out on the fly. One Gospel song was done Latin style, and I played a Tumbao style bassline! My Jazz was sounding great, and my Sadowsky preamp had it shaking the floor! I actually had to go passive for the sake of the choir during much of the practice, but the sound was still there, just quieter.

The bottom line is that I spend a heck of alot of time GAS-ing, but a good night of music is a great reminder that the true joy comes in playing music, not obsessing over gear.

That's Great to hear that your GAS obsession netted you a return, Dr. Cheese! It's always nice to be able to concentrate on the music/voices when your stuff is happenin'!

I know the feeling. There have only been a few times in my 12 years of playing where I was completely in the zone and everything was just perfect. You could have a Squier running through a Crate amp and if you are "there" it doesn't matter. Gear is fun and cool but a good playing experience is always the best!

Have fun at the service. It probably also helps that you are part of a service that commemorates a great person and a great message of hope and equality.

You can see me at Mt. Joy Baptist Church on Scwartz St. in Edwardsville, IL this coming Monday at 10:00 if you are off for MLK Day. I hope I don't hit too many bad notes.

I love moments like that. It's a pretty special feeling when you know everything has come together and the band is smokin'. I love that feeling

I play in a Yes tribute band, so I'm pretty used to the first few takes on a song being somewhat of a train wreck. At our last rehearsal, we ran through the song "America" for the second time, and it was pretty magical. A few misses here and there but otherwise nearly spot on. Its nice when it happens.

I would just like to say that the service was great! The choir really rocked, and the rythmn section was nice and tight. I got a great sound. I truly swear by my Sadowsky outboard preamp. It honestly brings my Fender Jazz to higher level. Using that preamp, I got a very modern sound that is perfect for Urban Gospel. Unless you are a total GAS freak like me, a Sadowsky preamp can save you a whole lot of money because it essentially gives you an extra bass in a stomp box.
