At our last gig we were setting up on stage. Drummer is behind his kit and I'm standing in front of my rig on stage left. His drum monitor is also on SL. I look to stage right and see that he has about 2' clearance between his kit and the wall, I could literally walk through this space without turning sideways. So I tighten the stage by moving my cab (4x10) closer to the kit and placing my 2 basses to the right of my cab.

5 minutes later he gets up from his throne and attempts to squeeze between his monitor, his kit, and my cab. He can't do it and looses his temper so he proceeds to shove my cab. I was confused by this at first. I say "dude, go around that way". He looks over and snaps back "there's cables over there" then keeps trying to shove my cab over (carpet + 50lb rack + no casters makes this hard to do). Another band member comes up, without asking me, and moves my guitars and pulls my cab over about 1'. So I move it back and tell him that he's gonna have to go the other way. Had I left my cab where they put it my heels would be on it all night.

BTW ... if he were able to move that cab over he would've knocked over both basses. He attempted to move this cab without any forethought.

Not Cool & very unreasonable behavior.
There are better ways to solve small problems.
If they are like that all the time, I'd be looking to move on.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving.

In all my 40 years of playing, I have never been in a band with any member that would show that kind of disrespect.

What do you expect from someone who calls his folding stool a "throne"?

Haha. Drummers are spastic and slow (mentally). I feel ya though i'm always being teamed up on by my Drummer and Guitarist.

^ Personally, I would have kicked BOTH of their a$$es, then walked out never to return. HOW DARE you disrespect my equipment, and DO NOT touch my basses. If you would like to have them relocated, you ask me nicely to PLEASE move them, and I will. You, will NOT.

Knock him in the head, accidentally of course, with your headstock. He will learn to go around you the long way. This has worked for me.

Sounds like he has anger issues or issues period. That's a warning to me. I always ask my bandmates as do they if we are setup in any way that might bother someone or cause a trip etc. It only takes a second to forget where you are at and an accident to gear or yourself, so speak up and ask if you cab ..rig etc is ok where you plan on placing it.
My band is known to often have to pack on small stages etc.We always make sure our drummer has a safe out path. He's a cool dude and we watch out for each other..we are like a family.

I once had a bandleader try to turn my knobs because he didn't like my tone. I told him that if he ever touched my stuff again, he'd be looking for someone in the audience to finish the night.

NOBODY TOUCHES MY STUFF!!!

Yeah, well maybe its a huge problem....

Or maybe the guy just had a bad day. Not excusing the behavior, but I've had good friends do stupid things at rehearsal and it was just crap in their life etc.

If you like the band, before you pull the plug you could at least try to listen to the guy. Sounds like maybe no one else is.

Lines in the sand are cool, but this problem could be solvable perhaps.

Yeah, I think I would have been nipping that one in the bud.

You let him get away with it once, I'm sure he thinks he'll be able to get away with it again.

because that doesn't sound equally as egocentric...

I would have said something before moving the stuff to him... but still... that's a tad childish imo. You're on the same team!

I hear ya. Would've been kind of pointless though. He had 2' of clearance on the other side + no monitor or bass rig to contend with.

We have another gig on Friday and I'm going to discuss this issue before the show.

Well, maybe it's a little strongly-phrased, but the convention I'm used to is the owner gets to say what happens to their possessions, & I don't see that being egocentric in any way. I'll ALWAYS ask before touching someone's gear.
