Are you in an oddly assorted band?

Guitarist and myself are software engineers and although we are not exactly out of shape (we still ride dirt bikes at a good clip), the drummer and singer are both firemen from the same station and they are ripped (I believe their only two hobbies between calls is TV and pumping iron).

It's also obvious the software guys are total nerds and that the two other guys are not exactly that.

I am interested to know of other oddly assorted band.

Not really. I'm a college student, the drummer works at an organic grocery, and the guitarist's family's business is antiques. However, we're all somewhat obviously metalheads (though the guitarist and I are often seen in clothes that aren't black... uh-oh, someone's going to come take away our metal cards...), so we don't look that oddly assorted.

Yeah, we are a bizarre bunch:
Singer is a 22yr old business student: Drummer is a Dental student, I am 50 yr old IT Director, Guitarist owns a TV production company. It's true that music transcends all barriers...

Oh and let's not even talk politics. To be short, some voted for McCain, some voted for Obama. We don't talk politics

Interesting thread. Opposites may attract or repel, but music unites.

By day I'm a client service representative for a national payroll and HR outsource firm.
My drummer is a lawyer.
One of my guitarists is a freelance music educator, the other is a cab driver.
My bandleader won't tell anybody who he works for, but it involves electronics and the government.

Odd bunch but we work well together.

We are a classic rock band, with a southern rock/blues leaning (think ZZ Top meets Lynard Skynard). I'm a geek, and get called the professor by those who don't even know that I taught in university for over a decade. Our lead singer is a reformed outlaw biker (he cut his hair and shaved his beard) who makes his living wiring trucks for Freightliner. Our rythm player/vocalist is a cabnit maker. Drummer works in a vets office as a tech. Lead guitar is in cement, they build curbs.... and the keys are held down by a criminal defense lawyer (we've collectively never spent a night in jail). I don't think many of us knew any of the others, even casually, before we got together 9 years ago. Now we hang together all the time (BBQ's, happy hour, etc...), with the exception of the drummer who is the newest member of the band, and that instrument is the only revolving door in the band.

My band is formed from co-workers. There are four of us and we are all of similar technical backgrounds ( 3 are software and 1 is electronics), but we have a Grand Canyon size age gap. The drummer and I are around 25 years old while the guitarist and singer are around 40. So anytime one of us says, "Do you know/remember [Some Band or Song Name]?" one person will agree and two people will have no idea what he is talking about. The band is just for fun though, so it doesn't really create a problem.

We, age wise, run from 26 (keys) to 54 (me) and oddly, its never been an issue. Actually, the keys and I hang together a lot. Even our girlfriends hang together and they are 27 and 59. They go on road trips, shopping, girls night out....go figure As an aside, the keyboard player writes most of the originals we do, and we all seem to take to them. Most of us have writen originals in the past and even occasionaly even do some of them, but his stuff stays where ours falls by the way side as we go onward.

Singer - Marketing coordinator for Qdoba
Guitarist - Mechanical design engineer for GE
Drummer - Public school tech dept, also runs his own studio
Me - microbiologist

Definitely an odd lot, but the guitarist, drummer, and I all went to high school together (they're a few years older than me), and then the guitarist and I both went to northeastern while the drummer was at berklee. We met our singer through craigslist.

Well, at least you know he's not going anywhere, Of course, getting him to gigs requires a crane or forklift.... and don't even mention how slow his leads are!!!!
