Hey fellow TBers,
If anyone reads this that read my previouse thread about firing my guitarist and drummer. YOU WERE ALL RIGHT. though they made the nessisary adjustments to what i expected of them for a few weeks, all the demons are rearing htere heads again.
The drummer has brought back his attitude and drinking with a vengence. Last night all he did was complain, complain, and then complain some more. the more he drank the more he complained. keep in mind this is after saying no drinking in our house as that is where we hold practice. he brought a 12 pack and claimed it was to share with everyone which would mean he was only drinking 3 beers for the night. later (45min) he snuck out and got money to a friend who stopped by to go get 2 more 12 packs.
The guitardist not quite as bad as the drummer but still fouling up 90%+ of the leads. He is claiming that he is practicing on his time off from rehearsals. This is probally true as he is playing some new leads for some of the new material however, everything still sounds like crap overall. Keep in mind this is over the course of 3-4 weeks, which should be plenty of time as everyone else knows there parts....besides him and the drummer.
Anyways more than anything this thread is to thank you all for your insight on the original thread titled Am I wrong for firing... (this post is on the last page in this here band management forum)and also to say that i should have listened to you all. there were many of you that called just as it has come about to happen. all the same issues have reared there heads and old habits are back. YOU WERE ALL RIGHT!
that being said. this band is a thing of the past come friday when our next (last) rehearsal is schedualed. I packed up all the gear,(only thing we dont own is guitarists guitars and his fractal) and wont be pulling it out for this rehearsal, instead will be letting them know that we are canceling the 4-5 gigs we have lined up and calling it quits. (with these guys).
I should have listened to my gut and to you guys.

Keep posting ads, letting others know you're looking, maybe try recruiting from Anchorage or another town/city, as someone suggested. You never know, right? Things have a way of coming together when you least expect it, even when the odds seem pretty low. Hope you two find a new situation that works for you. Sounds like you deserve it. And BTW, couldn't believe the booze issue with the drummer. Another TWO 12-packs? Several of us enjoy a few drinks at practice, but it is understood that under no circumstances it is acceptable for someone's imbibing to affect either their performance or their attitude. May the universe bring you new band mates who are grownups and who take the work as seriously as you do. Best of luck! |

You can't fix anyone else's drinking problem. They have to do it themselves. But, you can get away from it. Ya'll will do fine, I know. Hey, ya'll are the good guys, so no worries.

Hopefully this all goes well. At least i can set some experienced ground rules now for sure. Chin will stay up and ill never stop playing nor will my wife.
thank you all again for the support, it really does help.

thank you all again for the support, it really does help. | Keeping most of the band family adds a certain level of security and understanding. You get some family drama sometimes, but probably not with a wife and Bro-inlaw. That's generally a pretty safe bet. Especially since you and your wife have been playing together for quite sometime.
Just mailed off a resume for a state job up there. If I get it, I'll be sure to come out for your gigs. I know how the edges of the Matsu can be.

Im currently seeking work on the north slope. hopefully at least 1 of my resume's will make it to the right desk. and if so it should supplement my GAS that i have been trying EXTREMLY HARD to supress.
First audition went horribly. drummer claimed to be way better than he could show us. Now we are on the hunt for another bite from someone else. hopefully we can find something. and we unfortunatly let these @$$ holes talk us into keeping the gig we got this friday. (May 7th) sucks being hard up for cash. oh well....its for the money not for them. ever harder to give it up when replacements are so hard to find up here.
guess its time to start calling some really old contacts. wish us luck.
And to those who commented on the family thing being good. that is very true. and YES her brother plays guitar, and very well at that. it does however bring a bit of drama to the situation but at least its family drama not drunken drama. and it is very secure feeling, that was well put. only downside to it is he cant play lead like the other guy, but what leads he can play he plays really really really well. so now we have two (wife and her brother) extremly good rythym players both with a little ability to play leads. im sure the music will do nothing but improve at this point. as soon as we find that last key piece....a new drummer.
