Beethoven 5 clip

Hey everyone,

I thought this clip of Karajan and the Berlin philharmonic playing Beethoven 5 would spark some interest. They manage to show the basses in a lot of good passages!
I thought it was exciting!

Very Cool. They used a ton of basses. I may be wrong, but it looks like there are more basses than there are cellos.

Side note to Rob: Is it true that CYSO is doing Beethoven 5 this fall?

Hi Scott,

Yea I know. I just bought a DVD of the Berlin Phil w/ karajan playing Beethoven Symphonies 7-9 and the bass section is in 3 rows for the 9th Symphony.
Actually the CYSO is playing Brahms No. 1 for our fall concert and a couple other pieces. But I heard some people say that we might play Beethoven 5 for the GALA concert.

Take care.

Interesting video clip - noticable lack of estrogen though…

I don't believe women were allowed to audition for orchestra's in germany at that time period.

incredible energy though...you don't see the last desk of every section getting into it today, pity
