In any case, I love the changes the bassist is laying down! Understated elegance, imagination, and sheer musicality! http://www.jazzonthetube.com/page/404.html

Love to hear this kind of playing -- features a couple of attributes that are too often sadly missing from present-day music (and life in general): intimacy and restraint.

Tear your heart out, those guys.

Ed brought up "Waltz For Debbie" (The original title of the second vinyl of the "Sunday At The Vangaurd" live sessions for the "Riverside" label. The first being "The Bill Evans Trio. Sunday At The Village Vangaurd") because he was referring to that rendition of "Foolish Heart" with Bill, Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian off of that side. These two sides were historic for many reasons in terms of many things.
I have "Bill Evans. The Complete Riverside Recordings" which tracks all of Bill's recorded works for that label.
Fabulous stuff. Really a "Must Have" for Bill fans and any serious bassist.
I call it "The evolution of the jazz rhythm section".

So, Truths.... "Everybody Digs Bill Evans". Most musicians have at least one detractor that just doesn't get it, doesn't like 'em. I was trying to think of one person I'd met in my 53 years that didn't dig Bill Evans at least a little bit. I couldn't. It seems to me that he may come as close as any jazz artist to having universal appeal and acclaim.
I sure dig Bill Evans. He still inspires and informs me every day. For me, it's like breathing air or drinking water. He's an element. |

I wonder if Warburton was ever that young.
