Does anyone have Eccles Sonata for bass.

I have been trying to find Eccles Sonata for bass. But I live in a small town and there are no stores that sell classical music. Could someone send me the audio file of Eccles Sonata for Bass?

Gary Karr recorded the Eccles Sonata on his very first record. He was 20 years old. This is the one most of us have seen around with a picture of Gary, complete with facial baby fat, playing a great looking cherub's head solo bass.
I'd offer to burn you a copy, but I have it on vinyl and it's not in good condition.
You might be able to get it from Gary's site...Gollihur? Lemur???
I think Stuart Sankey did most of the Bass arrangements.
Good luck.
Also, believe it or don't, he uses GUT strings on this!

I have the Eccles Sonata on:

"The Bassist - Homage To Diversity" - Richard Davis, Palmetto Records PM-2071

"Virtuoso Reality" - Joel Quarrington & Friends, CBC Records MVCD-1108

There are at least 25 hits on amazon.com

Good Luck -

- Wil

Thanks I was able to find it on amazon.com. If you dont mind I would like to hear the song and I dont mind if it is of bad quality. I will probably end up buying the cd but It would be nice to hear it first. Thanks for the information.

Eccles Sonata MP3 - all four movements

I played the Eccles recently on Gary Karr's former "Amati" bass. Here are links to download the movements:

Eccles Sonata mvt 1 (MP3)
Eccles Sonata mvt 2 (MP3)
Eccles Sonata mvt 3 (MP3)
Eccles Sonata mvt 4 (MP3)

Also, if anyone needs a copy of the solo tuning piano part:

Eccles Sonata in A minor (solo tuning) for Double Bass (PDF)

Where is the Cherub-Head Amati now?

I noticed on this thread that someone had recently played the Cherub-headed Amati that Karr played in the 60's. My teacher, the late Jim Clute bought that bass from Karr, and it resided in the barely-locked University of MN String Music Annex for several years in the 1970s. Students never dare touch the instrument, because of our respect for both Jim and the bass, but we were invited from time to time to try it.

I heard at Jim's funeral this past spring that he had sold the bass back to Karr. Is that correct? It was an amazing instrument.
