EMusic "Leftovers"

We've all had that situation where it's the "end of the EMusic month" you've only got a handful of tunes left.

What do you like for four downloads or less?

I usually have something in my "Save for Later" list for those I want but don't neccessarily need to have right away. Then I just dl a portion of that album until the next month and do the same again until I have the full album.

Mingus' "Right Now" is two DLs, one of his best IMO, Town Hall is two or three as well. If you are up for some classic Free jazz, a lot of The Unheard music series and ESP are just a few DLs. Everyone can do with more Ayler! There are some really wonderful and beautiful Morton Feldman pieces around for one or two - Triadic Memories is one of the most beautiful modern piano works, the hour plus it lasts just flies by.

My favorite leftover so far is actually one of the best things I've downloaded on emusic. Herb Robertson's NY Downtown Jazz All Stars "Elaboration" features Mark Dresser, Tim Berne, Sylvie Courvoisier, and Tom Rainey. 50 minutes, one download.

Kewel, checking both of those. EDIT: Well, "Elaboration" is much too noise-oriented for me. But thanks nevertheless: Chances that is EXACTLY what EMusic is for.

Mingus At Town Hall is absolutely scorching.

For my two cents it's hard to top The John Coltrane Quartet's only live performance of A Love Supreme. No, it's not quite as tight as the studio recording. On the other hand, that'd be two downloads please . . .

I've collected some jazz downloads with 4 cuts or less into a list on emusic. This is all stuff I've downloaded, some of it already mentioned above, and probably many on TB have them already. I've not developed an ear yet for free jazz and I probably never will, so this list is admittedly biased to my own tastes. I'll add other sides as I stumble on them..
