| I agree with fingers on his remarks about dynamics....if I remember correctly ( 5stringDNA took a couple lessons with yours truly. ) we went over some possibilities in terms of the use of dynamics. In particular, I think many bassists tend to overlook the loud/soft dynamics possible on the DB. Many things to blame here, especially the timbre of the instrument. Most people I know think of the DB as an instrument that has, historically, struggled to be heard. Because of this, we don't always think of the bass as a dynamic instrument in terms of volume.
Question: did you write this piece out, or simply improvise it and decide, after the fact, to turn it into a composition?
I think you know....not just you, but any bassist/or instrumentalist of any kind, that it's a good idea to have the tape running at all times when you practice...you never know what might come out. I've done alot of this, and have come up with some pretty passable compositions , by stringing together a bunch of different practice sessions to make one big comp.
Again, play with some colors, both technique wise and tone-wise. Ever think of playing some sounds on strings between the bridge and the tail-piece? ? Especially effective arco.
Double stops added some dynamic color to your piece.
Right on!
