Question Help ID a melody on Ray Brown's "Bassics" album

Hi,

On Ray Brown's "Bassics" album is a version of Paper Moon. Ray starts the song with melody that does not come from Paper Moon, and I can't place it. What is that melody?

Edit: Here's a link to that album; just preview the song. Fortunately it starts at the beginning (or did for me).

Thanks,
Michael

So someone actually is trying to figure it out . . .

I thought I was going to have to bump it before it got buried.
A friend suggested that it's from a Strauss waltz, but I dunno. To me, it sounds like something I heard from either a music box or a Disney movie (kinda like When You Wish Upon a Star).

I don't have the album in question, but here's a suggestion: find the sheet music and see if he's playing the verse.

See the original post for a link to the album, where you can preview the melody.

Hi.

It's Prelude no 7 from Chopin's 24 Preludes.

This song is famous in Japan because it's the theme song for a series of commercials for stomach medicine:

My wife recognized it instantly.. as the stomach medicine song.

Thumbs up

Thank you, Brent. I have a recording of that prelude.
