Mal Waldron albums.
 

I have been listening to tons of Mal's albums. They are pretty much all very good to great, kind of super hip for what ever period. He leaves a ton of room for the bass.
The early trios have incredible bass playing from guys like Addison Farmer and Juilan Euell, both of those guys are super crisp and clear. Amazing players.

Later albums had Jimmy Woode for a while - great playing form him.
It seems like his preferred late trio was Reggie Workman and Ed Blackwell - not bad at all.
He also used AACM bassist Leonard Jones, made duos with David Friesen, even Eberhard Weber, etc.
I just think it is great that he went from being Billie Holiday's pianist to cutting edge duos with Steve Lacy.

Truthfully, their best work, and some of the best music ever is the Waldron and Lacy duo, but this quartet is nice.

The Reggie Workman / Ed Blackwell hook-up is something special - great Mal Waldron quintet albums with them too. I love 'The Git Go'.

Agreed about the duo with Lacy, too. That really is some of the greatest music ever....
