I just followed Damon Smith's example, and uploaded my vids (12 of them right now) on YouTube... some are old, some are new; some are on upright bass, some are on electric bass. Check 'em out at: http://www.youtube.com/profile_video...=marcopanascia

Checked out a couple of the Eldar clips and I have two observations:
1) you guys play your ***es off.
2) Could the (male) announcer talking about Eldar at the Blue Note possibly be more annoying?
The "So What" clip sounds great. You do some things with moving sixth lines that I've been working on lately, and you play them way more in tune than I do at this point. Kudos, and thanks for the inspiration. I'll make you a deal: tell me what your favorite recording you're on is at this point, and I'll order it this weekend.
Last, where are the videos of you playing with a bow? I mean come on, you're Italian, for god's sake! |

My video editor and I actually got rid of most of his close ups on that clip, by superimposing additional footage, but we couldn't edit his voice out. Oh well. Quote: |

You can download it for $9.99 on iTunes, hehe. Quote: |

I am a bad Eye-talian: I don't drink wine and can't cook a mean pasta to save my life. Sorry, no bowed clips available at this time

Yes, I do call it a cello when I check it in, they don't know any better, LOL

I really dig what Eldar is doing too.
OffTopic: Do you mind to give a couple of keywords on how you practised to develop those thumb position skills? |

thanks for your nice words. I am about to play with Eldar here in Seattle in a half hour, gladly the venue has wireless internet ;-)
As far as my thumb position stuff goes, I am totally self-taught when it comes to it... because of that, I am sure it can look very unorthodox to a legit bassist, but I just naturally tried to play on bass whatever I was digging from pianists or horn players I liked. And I learned a lot from an italian bassist named Dario Deidda. Google him up, he's the real deal.
Best,
Marco |

Then I found eldar on there and thus you again. Wow man you get such an amazing sound out of those basses. I really love the clip with eldar for the (dutch?) tv show especially your solo. |

You know, you should organize "Marco's Masterclass" at all the cities you visit for the local players. It'd be a fun way to spend your touring down-time, and put some extra cash in your pocket.
I'd offer to organize it for you but I have no skills in that area (or any other it seems ) - I couldn't organize the proverbial p*ss-up in a brewery. I'd attend an LA event, though.

P.S. How's Isabella Juzeka doing? (just came up with a name for your new bass) |

The Juzek's doing great - I've been getting complments from other band members. The weichs are playing in and it's sounding great already...especially now I'm getting used to the Eb neck and my intonation is improving.

I especially liked the NAMM show stuff with Carol Kaye, and there was all stuff going on around you,and you both just kept playing your asses off. Thanks for sharing those with us. Any plans to come to the UK? |

A gig with Eldar at Ronnie Scott's in London is in the works for early 2007, so stay tuned. I haven't been to London since 1998, and I am really looking forward to going back.

Eldar playing A Train solo, and Straight No Chaser feat. Roy Hargrove. Both of those are completely sick. There's a part near the beginning of Eldar's solo on Straight No Chaser where Marco messes around a bit and gets a big whoop from the audience. It sounds great!
