There are several "holes" in my bass CD collection that I'm trying to fill. Any suggestions for the definitive Mingus recordings I should start with?

Thanks

I'm a huge fan of "Money Jungle," although they're mostly Duke's tunes on the album.

If you want a big chunk of Mingus all at once, Check out The Complete Debut Recordings Box set.
Tons of Good stuff. Or You could start from the end with "Epitaph" and then work your way back from there, including :
Mingus Ah Um,
Me,Myself an Eye,
and Self-Portrait in three colors,
all good choices.

My favorite is "Mingus at Antibes".

But yeah, most anything will fill a hole well.

I'm trying to talk my guitarist into learning the Money Jungle version of "Caravan".

The Columbia box set is yummy. It includes an hour long interview with ole' Ming, conducted by his producer at the time, Nesuhi Ertegun.

Money Jungle is great, not a real Migus first listen type of disk but still great, Ah Um is also great.

I prefer "Revenge!" with Eric Dolphy.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Let My Children Hear Music". Well, I guess I just did...
