I liked the Capriccio. With the Bach though, really listen to your pitch. I also noticed you played with a bow quiver. Just to let you know, anything extra you put on your bass (quivers, mutes, pickups) takes away sound.

Thank you. Sounds good. Good luck. Where did you get the sheet music for Dave Anderson Capriccio IV?

Thoughts...

I think you are a very good player and you've done a lot of work towards being a great bassist. What I think needs to be addressed more in your performance is dynamics, phrasing and shape. I only had a chance to listen to the middle clip so far but my first impression (besides that you may want to do the recording in a more acoustically accurate room) is that it is all coming tumbling out in a kind of "constant stream". I bet if you memorized the piece and got your eyes off the page and into the sound and shape of the melody you would see an immediate improvement. It's good, don't get me wrong, but it could be much better if you would break it down into sections and think more about the intent
and direction of the melody. Each note leads to the next, each phrase sets up a new phrase. The piece has to b r e a t h e. Think about that and I bet it will make a big difference. I hope this is helpful. Good job and good luck.

I really appreciate all the feedback. Jason, thanks for pointing out the problems with phrasing and dynamics. I've always had a problem with that and I haven't really started to address it until now. Exaggeration is the best way to come across with dynamics I guess.

My Hope is..

or was, not to offend you but maybe bring some things into play that you might be forgetting in mid-performance. Thanks for being so open to constructive criticism. I respect all the work you have put in already and you are well on your way...
