Oscar Pettiford recordings please.

I listen to Pandora Radio at work and it actually played Pettiford's "Stardust" solo. Wow. Maybe one of the most beautiful pieces of music recorded. I have him with Monk on "Brilliant Corners", where do I go from here?

Hmm... here's some suggestions:

-Thelonious Monk Plays Duke Ellington
-O.P. at The Montmartre
-O.P. Deep Passion (a big band date)
-O.P. My Little Cello
-the one with Mingus on Bass and O.P. on cello, forget the name
-Lucky Thompson Tricrotism

Something seemed strange about that title so I Googled it and got:

Tri´cro`tism
n. 1. (Physiol.) That condition of the arterial pulse in which there is a triple beat. The pulse curve obtained in the sphygmographic tracing characteristic of tricrotism shows two secondary crests in addition to the primary.

Which is weirdly appropriate in a way!!

But I always thought it was Tricotism - which is like the French for Knitting!!

The O.P. record that has Stardust on it is called 'Another One' and it's pretty killer all the way around. It's got a great lineup including Donald Byrd, Gigi Gryce and Bob Brookmeyer. As well as Stardust, it's got what I would call a definitive version of Bohemia After Dark. Just an all around great record. Man...why am I not listening to it right now? I need to fix that...

Maybe we can do mediation, I have seen it published both ways so maybe it is an alternate spelling.

FWIW, it's in the RB as "Tricrotism."

That's weird isn't it - I noticed on Google that a lot of hits came up for this - I never knew it was an actual word, but it just struck me, how in a way, it's a more appropriate title than "knitting"!!

So - having a pulse with a triple beat - almost defines swing in Jazz - whereas knitting sweaters, has never really been cool!!

But :

I played tricrotism for a jury and never mind how three different bass players told me what the spelling was but then I had at least three people telling me to pronounce it different.

Finally got this recording and the bass playing is very impressive - some lovely solos - incredibly strong and melodic!!

Nice sound overall - as well!! Lovely playing from Lee Konitz !

Topaz Jazz ( a British Jazz Label) "Oscar Pettiford Bass Hits" TPZ 1071. This CD traces O.P. from 1943 [Esquire Allstars to1946 with Duke Ellington]. The 23 songs are all gems with the who's who of jazz of that era......Hawkins,Bird, Dizzy,Sammy Price,Clyde Hart etc. etc.

Oscar Pettiford "First Bass" 1953-1960 IARJC CD 1010. This disc combines all rare and never issued traks with O.P. on bass and cello plus a really rare audio interveiw! It even has a different version of Stardust.
