Ready Or Not ?

Hello everybody, here's an acoustic solo on this nice hip hop song translated for 4 double basses.
I started from the idea of live repetition, that sometimes is harder than just play...
Not a 'formal version', really quick released, but I respected the pitch and tryed to used the appropriate speech in the chorus section, melting many influences? Hope you will like it, all comments are welcome ( )

Nice playing. I didn't like the beat, it was too much IMHO. A quieter beat or lower in the mix would work for me. Now I'm going to run before this thread goes in the same direction as the Bohemian Rhapsody one.

HA HA HA !

Thanks Michael. You're right, the beat is too loud. Sorry, before I uploaded it, it seems less. And maybe too much ...
Thanks for your comments !
Good music to you,
Mathieu

I am more in favor of this, but what I'd say is, the Fugees are not adding much but name recognition. The music is Mathieu's, making your own backing tracks and playing a similar solo would be better and more interesting.
Incredible bass playing, as always.

Phew! On s'en tire bien cette fois-ci. Excellent as always. Great inspiration for us newbies.

Nicely done, Mathieu. Can you describe what your recording process and software is? I like the look of this one as well as the sound.

I always enjoy your playing one4dabass....the sound and approach reminds me of those old David Friesen records I obsessed on in the early '80's...and it still sounds contemporary.

@lorianb: Ha ha ha ! Je ne voulais pas me mettre au psychobilly tout de suite ... Thanks !

@Mr. PC: Thanks. And THANKS to makes m discover DAVID FRIESEN, a really Great DB player I must confess didn't knew him (shame on me) . Really love his work .

@Chris Fitzgerald: Many thanks !
My method is very rustic:

For the recording:

1) 4 tracks max at the same time on the H4n.

2) Samplitude Music studio (a basic music editor), for the filmed/recorded videos (except for Little Wing, mixed with Audacity and a MP3 horrible quantized drum). And I real book, Aebersolds or MP3 backing tracks for some covers.

I cannot edit anything or making overdubs because my processor isn't powerfull (even just to play the voices after the 'mastering' !).

For the camera:
I use a DV JVC camera and I use Movie Maker or some random free software...
Same synchronisation problems, so, I really have no choice but to play it in one shot...
And for some effects, YouTube allows you to use some effects, so I've fun with it!

For the fonts, Dafont is my best friend!

So, I decided to play a tune, I record the backing track (if there's a BT) or the basic drum prog on my microphone I tune my bass, and play all the voices in one shot -it's very difficult to find exactly the same pitch after-.

Then, I make a couple of solos, and I keep the more acceptable solo for the idea I wanted to illustrate.

The only things I've to do is to sync the recorded backing track (who's sync. with the tracks I've played) with the original MP3 baking track on my music editor software. And sometimes to briefly 'work' on the drum prog to follow musical inflexions.

For this vid, I've unfortunately record the solo the day after (the night was fallen for the previous take...), and if you listen closely, the pitch moved ...
TBH, I'm not really satisfied of the result, but that's life...

I wanted to re-record all the tracks but I had no time to do it this month and my wife was upset by repetitive lines ...

Thanks for your encouragements and your questions, don't hesitate to ask more !
Blessings, and good music to you,
Mathieu

Thanks so much Chris !!!
It's not always easy to do with less than 4000$ gear (including my bass) ...

But I always try to think that the most important is what you've heard to try to do my best...
And still glad to be in XXIth century for all the effects who don't necessarily need to have so much or exensive gear, and wich you can have fun with (distorsion, phaser etc) !

So many blessings and good music to you,
Mathieu
