Exclamation Roy Haynes is the Man

Anyone check out Roy Haynes new album, Whereas? I just heard a track from it. The tune was My Heart Belongs to Daddy. Man, what an awesome group:

Roy Haynes - drums
Jeleel Shaw - sax
Robert Rodriguez - piano
John Sullivan - bass

They're playing a lot of new sounds in the solos that I've never heard before. I am going to try to order the CD this morning.

I just though I'd add that I use to have Roy Haynes' CD called Te Vou with Pat Metheny and Chris McBride, the one that won a Grammy. I love that album, but I think his new band, Fountain of Youth is a lot more modern. I mean that in a good way not at all in a smoooth jazz way. It's the kind of music that I want to be involved in. Jaleel Shaw is now my favorite young sax player. I personally get tired of hearing the same old post bop stuff all the time, so it's great to hear a band that's moving in new directions.

Roy is indeed bad with a capital BAD. I still enjoy the quartet with Chip Jackson, Kikoski and Donald Harrison, but I got to see them a lot back in the day. They handed Roy Hargrove his hat one night at Visione's. And that ain't easy.

Robert Rodriguez is making some noise around town, him and his brother Michael. His wife works at my day gig and he's fallen by a couple of times, seems like a nice cat.
