Dave Carpenter, completely under-rated and a very gifted soloist on upright, Fender and six-string. He had it all; lines, melodies, technique and time.

The classic is the PC solo from RED GARLAND'S PIANO.

While not a bass solo, Miles' solo off the "Relaxin'" album is great and lays really well on bass...

If you're feeling ambitious, there's a version by Joe Pass and Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on "North Sea Nights."

There are two great versions of the tune on Miles' "Live at the Blackhawk" - but on neither does Paul Chambers take a solo - although he does on other tunes - wonder why?

I would suggest David Hodge's solo from the Mulgrew Miller Trio album Live at Yoshi's. There's actually a lot of nice solos on that album.

I see this is an old thread, but transcribe one of Miles' solos.
