Triste - Antonio Carlos Jobim

I have a recording of this but no information other than it is from Verve Jazz Masters 13.
Can anyone tell me the year, who the bassist is, and what kind of instrument it is?

Question

ACJ recorded this many, many times.

If it sounds high quality in terms of recording, playing and production it may be the one from the "Wave" album. I don't have it in front of me, so this is just a shot in the dark.
We talked about this recording here a few months back. If it IS this one, the bassist is the fine Los Angeles player Jim Hughart. Playing a real bass in front of a real microphone in a real studio.
Are you asking the maker of his bass?
At that time he was playing a carved German double bass without a label. This could be another bass though.
I think I'm safe in saying it was an older carved double bass.

Thumbs up

Got it. Thanks.
The one on the "Wave" album has strings and stuff. Does your version?
If does, it may be that one. (With Jim on bass). Claus Ogerman did the arrangement.
Or it could be one from Brazil with strings that I may not be aware of.
The plot thickens.
(To be continued).

Exclamation

I gotta get a life....
I was wrong about Jim on the "Wave" recording. It was some guy named Ron Carter.
Our dear OP sent me an MP3 of his clip. It's Elis Regina singing the tune.....
If I'd known it wasn't a Jobim version, I wouldn't have stepped on my ****.
Slab on the OP's clip. (IMO) They really know how to slab down there.
Here..........same chick, same tune, different clip.

Thanks for the info.
I have to try to find the liner notes to this album.

Looks like a Rickenbacker in the YouTube clip (0:25).

The OP's version is from Elis & Tom, and it's Luizao Maia on the porkchop. My liner notes say 1974.

I have 'Triste' on the LP 'Amoroso' by Joćo Gilberto
The version I learned on Spanish guitar is from Sergio Mendes and Brazill '66, the LP 'Equinox'
The photos of Sergio's bassist show him always playing a Jazz Bass.
The liner notes for 'Amoroso' list a Jim Hughart as bassist, no photos of musicians, lo siento. This LP was recorded in 1976 and 1977 at Rosebud studios, NY (November 17th-19th '76) and Capitol Records, Hollywood (January 3rd, 4th, and 7th '77)

Hope this helps
