Is that Roman Patkolo? He blew me away at the ISB a few years ago.

| | | This clip has been posted here before. It's surprising how the other bass players seem to be so much worse than the solo bass. They're out of tune and not in time. Oh well, maybe they were having an "off" night. It's also surprising that Vengerov's performance isn't necessarily on either. Wow... I'm being really cynical here. Sorry, calling it as I see it. |

So much for the bunch of bassists.
As for him, i don't like his (sometimes sloppy) style, but at certain times when he runs down (or up) at incredible speed, you really get a glimpse that this guy know what is doing and has some balls ...

For those interested, I found a link to the full version of the clip on the ensemble's website: http://www.bassiona-amorosa.de/stream.html |

The solo bass is out of time in the very beginning, and the violin has a tendency to rush throughout the selection. Thanks for posting, though. This is definitely one of my favorite songs.

Sorry, calling it as I see it. | I just can't respond to this post...That was an incredible performance by all four performers. I wish I could play with such musicality as any one of them, including the "out of tune" other two bassists. Absolutely incredible |

We should consider the hole contest. It was a show of the abilities of a double bass to rival with a violin (Vittorio Monti's ideas wasn't it, I can tell it). Well, it's the same thing that Bottesini did one century ago with Viotti, or Dragonetti with Lindley (a cellist). If Bassione played it in a good recording studio, probably the result might be better. But the authentic solist "judge" in livin' moments ... well, in "died moments" it's more difficult to "judge"
Best Regards
