I am a new member to talkbass, although I have been reading articles for many months, its only now that I have got around to joining. I had my bass stolen last weekend and I just wanted to make people aware of the details, just in case anyone gets offered this for sale. The bass was a Musicman Stingray 5, blue with maple neck & black abalone scratchplate. Ser No. E37131, also taken was an EBS multicomp pedal & 2 monster bass cables. I am trying to get the details to as many people as possible who may be offered this for sale, it was insured but it went missing on a BMI flight from Belfast to Heathrow airport, London. The BMI supervisor has told me that it must have been stolen as it would have turned up by now. The insurance company say that I have to claim from the airline as it was in their care. The maximum amount of compensation the airline will pay out is £850. Also, I have to leave it for 10 days before they declare it officially lost (not stolen), you can't report it stolen unless there is evididence that a crime has been commited! Such as it appearing for sale somewhere. During these 10 days, the stolen item could aready have been sold on. Great news for a theif working in an airport! They get 10 days to offload there takings before any investigation can start. Beware when checking in valuable items onto an aeroplane as you may not be fully covered. Any help in trying to get my bass back would be greatly appreciated.
