Is there a nationwide database of stolen bass serials?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been watching eBay and craigslist seen some really good deals lately. Whenever I see a $1000.00 bass selling for $500.00 I always wonder in the back of my mind if it is stolen.

I know there's a lost and stolen forum here. Is there a searchable database anywhere where you can put in the serial # for a bass and tell if it has been reported stolen?

I would hate to get a good deal because of the misfortune of others.

Dont know if anybody has answered your question so I will.

None that I am aware of....however if the owner(from which it was stolen) files a police report and provides the serial number for NCIC (where stolen property is registered) purposes then there is a "database" of sorts.

I would suggest to you that if you have a buddy who is a cop he may be able to check such numbers for you depending on his departments policy. I do not think it is a violation of the NCIC rules to do so for property ( I will check).
