UPS box containing 8 string bass neck stolen off porch!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I am posting this below so I don't have to retype the situation. It is my response to people who respond to my request for a bass neck on craigslist. Here is my crsigslist ad...

http://syracuse.craigslist.org/msg/558441786.html

Actually I am not really looking for a neck. Yesterday (Jan 30th) someone stole a UPS box off my porch with an 8 string bass neck in it. I know because i saw the box while eating breakfast. Maybe an hour later when I was dressed and went to get the box it wasn't there, and no one else who lives here was at my house the whole time (and I also asked later.) I also contacted the ebay seller and he said that it was delivered the night before. Anyways 8 string bass necks are pretty damn rare and this one would be very easy to identify. I set up my craigslist ad to be very vague because the person who has it may not know exactly what it is. I am hoping whoever stole it contacts me to try to sell it.

Here is the ebay auction... complete with pics. Note the headstock for identification purposes. The added veneer on top also does not match the shape at the very end of the headstock.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=008

I also won an 8 string schaller bass bridge from the same seller that was in the very same box with the neck... http://cgi.ebay.com/Schaller-8-Strin...QQcmdZViewItem

Not only are 8 string bass necks rare but the previous owner put that burl maple veneer on the headstock himself. This option is not available from warmoth, the manufacturer. ALso note the 8 drilled holes in the neck heel. It is very very unlikely that another 8 string bass neck even exists that is like this one since it was modified after the factory. It is obvious that you aren't the person since you have an ibanez neck. Please do me a favor and keep an eye out for this bass neck. If you find it please do not do anything other than contact me.

If it is not TOO MUCH of a problem please check any pawn shops in your very immediate area. That is one thing I cannot do myself. I do plan to watch craigslist and ebay and I am filing a police report tomorrow.

Doubt this will work but I have to try or I am out $220...

Thanks,

Joe

Probably won't work especially if buyer honesty prevails.

IIRC, all three(UPS, FedEx, DHL) all have small print that states the DRIVER can leave the stuff and note where he put it on RESIDENTIAL deliveries. It will be their employee of the year versus you. Their driver has a written record saying he left it there and may even have witnesses(i.e neighbors). Perhaps one of those noticed your porch cleaner.

We live in boonies and after a set of wife's new dishes got left by a driver in the rain here....enough was enough. We both get important items shipped to our employers' OR to smalltown Post Offices(if the buyer will ship USPS) where we know the folks.

The "drop it off and leave" stuff is

I'm always searching for those necks on eBay, so I'll hit you up if I see it.

I did notice the burl veneer had a sad face in the grain. Odd.

the burl veneer was also an add on from the seller. He did it himself. So there is probably not another 8 string bass neck in the world like that one. And if there is it has 8 screw holes in the neck pocket area.

I hate when this happens!!! UPS generally knocks the door and do not leave it there, but Fedex sometimes do not even knock. That's one of the reasons that I only work with UPS and USPS.

I will be on the lookout for eBay, I also am looking for a neck. Hope it will turn out. IMO there is a good chance unless the scambag is planning to use it as a bat.

yea, the bad part is probably the situation is someone sees a UPS box on a porch and takes it. Probably won't know what it is and try and sale it on ebay or just throw it away. Can't imagine someone takin' a neck to a pawn shop? I'm always lookin' for bodies and necks on ebay, so if I see anything I will be sure to let you know...

If it was delivered via UPS I would definitely report it as not being delivered. I'm in the middle of something very similar with UPS, they claim to have delivered four tires to me, and apparently the field supervisor was out on this run training the delivery driver in my area, but the tires disappeared before I was aware they had been delivered. If it was insured, they may be able to at the very least refund your money.

I will be requesting the seller to buy the UPS "adult signer" delivery requirement from now on. At least they have to knock on the door.

If you didn't receive it, that's what the insurance is for. If they leave it without a signature, and you don't get it (and you didn't, as it was stolen) they are responsible for it.

End of story.

File a claim, pronto.

I hope you get your stuff back. Could it be some local kid(s)? Keep an eye on the neighborhood trash on collection day.

UPS leaves stuff next to the front door if I'm not at home. My 90lb puppy Mastiff/Rottweiler mix doesn't eat the UPS guy because he is bringing boxes to the house. He would eat strangers trying to take things away though. We keep him on a chain hooked up to a runner that runs from end of the gated driveway to the back of the property with enough slack to reach the front door.

No disrespect, but I'm guessing you surmised it was your eBay package, but left it on the porch for an hour? These days, it's not safe to assume we live in "safe" neighborhoods any longer... I am sorry, and angry to hear of your loss.... I hope it turns up for you.

yeah I messed up that day. It was really really cold and windy so I waited til I was dressed to go get it. I guess freezing for a few seconds would have been worth not losing $250 over... hindsight is always 20/20

If we had a dollar for all the hindsight we've seen over the years, our butler would be going out and freezing HIS ass off to retrieve our packages!

Sending you Aloha, man....

I use to work in a shipping dept. and I know that UPS can't just leave stuff on your porch unless it is sent with that option, or you request that from UPS. Did you know that they were sending it with "No signature required"? Did you request that from the seller or UPS? Did the sender tell you he was doing that? IF no to any of these things then I don't see why they should have just left it.
