Chord Questions

So my question is simple.. and for some reason i get alot of differant awnsers.

Dose a Augmented Seven Chord have a major or minor seventh?

For example ----- C+7
C-E-G#-B?
Or
C-E-G#-Bb?

Thanks!

Neither - that would actually function as a dominant 7th, but your second choice is correct: C E G# Bb.

C E G# B would be an augmented major 7th chord (Cmaj7 #5, for example).

what's the function of such a chord?

also, wouldn't an augmented chord with a minor 7th be called an altered chord?

Major 7th aug. chords functuntion like a tonic but with the added tension created by having the #5.
Take the song All THe Things You Are and use a Maj.7 #5 as a substitute in bars 7-8 and 15-16, and on the bridge do the same with the Gmaj7 and the Emaj.7 It gives the harmony a very rich sound.
A dominant with only the 5th raised is just a Dom. 7th +5 (augmented dominant). When you add b9 #9 and b5 it becomes altered.
These chords aare easily analyzed like this:
Cmaj.7 #5 is an E triad over a C bass or E/C
C7alt. = Gb triad on top of a C7 (Gb/C7) which gives you a b5 and a b9 OR a Ab triad over a C7 (Ab/C7) which gives you a #5 and #9 depending on what alterations you want.

harmonic major

If you think of it as a major scale with a flat 6,
I think we used to call this the harmonic major scale
