Jimmy Blanton Solo on Pitter, Panther, Patter

I was wondering if anyone has transcribed Jimmy's solo on Pitter, Panther, Patter from the Duke Ellington Solos, Duets, and Trios recording or has a lead sheet for the tune? Any help would be greatly apprectiated...

I think it's available in this book. I'll double check when I get home.

My bad, it just has "Body and Soul", "Sophisticated Lady", and "Mr. J.B. Blues". Sorry, don't know where you could get a transcription of "Pitter Panther Patter".

I have it written out somewhere but I can't find it, sorry. It's not too hard to transcribe, he does a lot of similar stuff throughout the solo. You should definitely give it a go on your own, but if I happen to find it then I can post it here for you

I have about 10 Blanton transcriptions including Pitter that I was putting together. I will look for it. Of course, there's nothing like getting those headphones on and going through it with the great man himself...

This reminded me of when TB had a Tab section and there was a Tabbed Jimmy Blanton solo - Heresy!!

You can still find it here :

...although the poster is suitably contrite!!

Blanton is actually a really good place to start your transcribing journey. If you want to study the evolution of bass in jazz Blanton is a nice place to start. His solos are fairly easy to transcribe and the production on the record is pretty good.

I found my transcription while I was cleaning up some old stacks of papers and I remembered this thread. If anyone still wants it I can put it in finale and post it here.

I'd be interested in seeing it if it's not too much trouble. I love those Duke/Blanton duos.

I found mine as well. BUT, why not just sit down and work it out. Notation-wise it is pretty easy. Playing it with that much feeling, drive and articulation...well, there lies the magic.

The Mac version of PrintMusic (Finale light) prints directly to PDF. You must be using Windows, right?

For Windows, here is a support page that describes how to do it, with links to a couple of other PDF-creation programs (free, they say).

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to bring up old threads, but I was wondering if anyone had a transcription of this tune that they would be willing to load? I just finished my transcription and am performing it for a jury on Thursday, and would like to compare mine with others.

I recorded Pitter, Panther, Patter years ago with Bill Mays on my 'Tale of the Fingers' album. I added a little solo section in the middle . . . fun to play!

It's here on LastFM.

Thanks for posting that--I had a whole book of Blanton transcriptions (not published) and I've misplaced it. This is a great solo!

My pleasure. The only other one I've done is Jack the bear. Would've loved to see your book!

Best
Matt
