Scared

Had my first lesson tonight
The teacher put the Simandl and a Bille based text on the stand
I got scared but I crashed through

But I need something easier, I can't read at all
I am self taught and crash and bash my way in my present band
Really want to learn to read and get a better foundation
The teacher said that he can use any text I want

The Bille uses the 1-3-4 and the Simandl uses the 1-2-4
I have always used 1-2-3-4

I am considering Suzuki or Vance or Essential Elements
Searched and learned alot about texts but since I live in Japan they all have to be ordered and I cant check them out

Any suggestions?

Thanks

When I taught strings in a school I used Essential Elements. It was the default book they used when I got the job. It seemed good. Some of the tunes in it are not that engaging but as far as learning beginning fingerings it was very clear and concise.

Thanks , I ordered the Vance Progressive series
It combines the best of the Suzuki and Rabbath method
And I like the idea that it includes the CD

Thanks

PS I wanted to order from Lemur but their International shipping was 2.5 times higher than I paid. $40 compared to $17.50.
