Are the view figures real?

Even though my 5-string bass build thread is getting quite long, I find it difficult to believe that it's been viewed more than 10,000 times. Are the figures real?

Hi Dave.

What makes You think they wouldn't be?

If it was "just another" (absolutely no offense what so ever to the people who do "regular" builds) build, I could suspect a glitch in the system if I was a doubting kind of a person, but Your build have quite a few unusual qualities in it.
Making it no surprise IMHO why the thread is being viewed as much as it has.

Regards
Sam

Sounds right to me. I watch the thread every time there is an update.

That thread pleases both the luthier and the neat freak in me.

My build is what I would call a fairly average build, but it still have gotten 2800 views already.

Keep in mind that the number of views is not the number of individual people that have viewed the thread. If one user view it 10 times it will count 10 views.

It's just that I'm surprised at the figures in general on the Talkbass Luthier's Corner, not just my thread. I wouldn't have thought there were that many people interested in bass guitar making compared with other luthery forums.

For instance, one of the busiest general luthery forums is the OLF. But one thread on there has 460 posts and 6,000 views compared with 10,000 views for 120 posts on my thread. I'm not suggesting that there's any sort of skullduggery going on, I just thought that perhaps a rogue multiplier had crept into the 'counter'.

On a normal day, I can view each thread I'm subscribed to about ten times for each update.... I suspect I'm not the only freak that does this...

I think most readers in LC are lurkers. Most people doesn't bother leaving comments that basically says "I like this".

TB does have a huge user base after all, and may are probably interested in the process of building, but doesn't build themselves for various reasons. A forum for luthiers will have a smaller user base (less views) but the few users are more engaged in the process since more of them are active themselves.

I joined TB because of the LC, so most of my comments are in this section. I still view other sections like "band management" even though I have no experience in the field. I'm just curious. (And based on the Band Management section it looks like joining a band is a very bad move. )

And not only are there the people who check several times a day, but also consider that if a new reader clocks the arrow to look at your latest post, then decides to go back and read the entire six page thread, that's seven views.

I often go back and reread threads for many reasons: inspiration, jigs, how did that person deal with this problem, and most of the time I only have time to look so if I have something I want to say, I have to come back. Dave I'm sure I look at your thread at least 10-15 times a day. PJ... I look at his still, lots of good info there (looking forward to the next one PJ) Smilodon, T-Bird, yep... watching those too. Pretty much anytime I need to step away from what i'm doing, I check to see what you guys (TB community) are up to. Heck... I should be in the shop right now, ha, ha,

I go through a lot of the threads on here simply because there are some amazingly skilled builders on here, and seeing how they work is interesting. Also, being a novice living-room luthier myself, I have tons of questions that have already been answered in other threads, so I often spend time going back to previous pages in threads looking for specific information. But mostly it's the watching-in-awe-and-amazement thing...
