12" radius Jazz fretboard???
Bought a 2007, Indonesian Squier Jazz, Standard series, rosewood board. It has an IC07xxxxx serial number.
I stuck the 9.5" gage on it first and it was clearly not 9.5"... too flat. Went to a 10"... no. Finally, the 12" gage fits perfectly.
I have never read of this.
Every ad for a used Jazz that mentions fretboard radius says it's 9.5". All of the Fender spec pages say 9.5".
What did I buy? What's with the 12" radius?
Did you measure on the fretboard or on top of a fret?
If it was on top of a fret, someone may have flattened the radius in the process
of leveling, adding falloff, or modifying to compound radius.
Is it the same at both ends of the neck?
I measured the fretboard in several places, top to bottom.
It's a 12" radius everywhere.
What kind of gauges did you use?
Commercial metal gauges should be accurate.
Plastic gauges can be off, and "print your own" are likely off.
Some of the indo and weird foreign series fenders/squiers have flat boards like this. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I used stainless steel radius gages from Stew-Mac.
All my jazz basses are 12 degree
